Sarah Palin appears to be using a private jet at the cost of $4,000 per hour for her traveling luxury instead of a bus for her “Going Rogue” book bus tour. This seems to make a mockery of her “bus” tour and the image of a down home hockey mom that she tries so hard to present to the public.
The irony of the entire situation is that her very words have come back to haunt her. She claimed to have gotten rid of the luxury jet provided by the state of Alaska because it was ‘over the top’ and she did not think the tax payers needed to foot such a huge bill. Now she is riding in a luxury Gulf-stream II private jet when she is suppose to be on a bus.
I feel like the entire facade that Sarah Palin presents is often fake. She tried during her campaign with John McCain to constantly present herself as a simple mom who is not used to the jet setting lifestyle and who prefers to be more modest. She constantly made it sound as if the $150,000 campaign wardrobe had been forced upon her against her will and that she did not agree with such an expense. She even maintains that today in interviews when she talks about the John McCain campaign. However it appears that her actions and words are often contradictions of themselves.
Personally, I would not care if Sarah Palin flew everywhere in a jet and the bus never existed. It would not have changed how I view her but what I do care about is that she and her publicists have made a big deal out of the entire concept of the ‘bus tour’ but in reality it is a luxury plane tour. It seems to me that they try to constantly try to paint Mrs Palin as a down to earth mom who absconds luxury and prefers to even shop at consignment shops but the reality is often far different. I wish that they did not try to present her differently then she actually is. It seems like a misrepresentation to the American public and it is a little bit demeaning to her as a successful woman.
She is seen emerging from her bus for her signings and the entire publicity surrounding the ‘bus tour’ has led the public to believe that she is actually traveling via this bus from stop to stop. She has also done interviews on the bus which seemed to paint the picture that she was utilizing the bus for her sole mode of travel from location to location, however, this was all simply a publicity stunt it would appear.
Her book tour is highly successful. To date she has sold 2.7 million copies of her book, “Going Rogue: An American Dream.” Fans have lined up around the country for a chance to see her and purchase her book. She has proven to be wildly popular with the American public and a good part of that popularity is her down home appeal. However, I truly do not think that if the media had simply been honest from the start about the private jet rental it would have adversely effected her popularity.
People adore Sarah Palin and they will continue to adore her no matter what her mode of transportation is. I simply wish that she often did not seem so fake. I suppose that I want to truly believe that she is what she has been portrayed as but I often have my doubts. I sometimes wonder if she is simply a creation of her clever publicists and if we will ever truly know who the real Sarah Palin is.
It is unknown who is paying for the expensive jet but the book publisher HarperCollins is more then likely providing the plane.
I do not think that the American public truly cares if Sarah Palin uses a bus or a plane to arrive at her book signings but it would be nice if her publicists were simply honest and did not try to deceive the American people in order to make Sarah Palin appear to be who and what she is. Just let the woman be herself. She is obviously bright, successful, and someone to be respected so why try to make her into even more of a modest woman then she already is.
