Associated Content has been blessed with an abundance of great writers; perhaps more than any other site with which I am familiar. Better still, the writers that grace AC come from a wide variety of backgrounds. That allows the content on this site to be both interesting and varied.
I started “The Most Intriguing Writers of AC” as a means to bring attention to those writers who deserve to be recognized for their outstanding work within a given year. They are some of the best at what they do, whether it be humor, educational, informational, poetry, politics, reporting, reviews, short stories, travel or something else. They are always worthy of a second, third or even fourth look.
Since the list’s inception, many other writers have submitted the names of their favorites to be included on this list. That means that the opinions expressed here are not necessarily mine alone. Hopefully, that adds even more credence to the nomination of these writers.
This year, there were 11 poets nominated. Sadly, only six agreed to be listed. Rest assured; however, that all six of them deserve to be here. I am familiar with their work. Their poetry challenges, teaches, and touches the mind and the heart.
Let me begin with Shaheen Darr. I love her poetry because it speaks of things we all think about and it touches a chord in the soul. Trying to choose a favorite of her work was hard because I have several. However, in the end, I chose “A Promise to Survive” because it spoke to me of the struggle we all must go through.
Shaheen has been with AC for a little over a year. However, she has made the best of her time here, publishing some amazing poetry, stories, and articles.
She says she likes AC because she enjoys “the flexibility of choosing which category to write for. I also enjoy the comments from other writers which makes this such an interactive and friendly site compared to others.”
While she loves it here she says, “I have encountered a few technical glitches, which don’t seem to have been resolved. I cannot upload any slideshows for a while now and though I have complained on the forums there hasn’t been much done about it.”
She writes a lot of creative pieces. “I enjoy writing poetry and recently also submitted one of my short stories called ‘Tara’. This was a very simple story but this is how I wanted it to be, short but to the point.”
When asked what she would like to write that she hasn’t done before she responded, “I would love to report current news items and write more book and movie reviews.”
Hesitant to list certain writers as her favorites, she admits she has several. When pressed further; however, she points to Kristie Leong for her informative medical articles. “I do admire her expertise.”
She always added, “Dan Reveal is such a supportive writer as he does not miss any of my writings and his poetry is so cleverly written, it intrigues me.”
Shaheen likes reading “poetry, articles on natural remedies, and short stories. News articles are good too.”
For new AC writers she recommends, “persevere and write about something that interests you. I think this is when your passion starts to show through. The more you feel strongly about something, the more honestly you can share about it. I know some people write with an eye on page views but I write because I enjoy what I write, if it doesn’t interest many people, it doesn’t bother me.”
She also shares this personal information about herself. “I am very family orientated, am self employed and also write for another online site called Helium.com. Here is a link to my page if anyone is interested to read more: http://www.helium.com/users/341581.”
I hope you will give Shaheen’s work a looksee. I promise you will be happy that you did. Here is a link to her author page: www.associatedcontent.com/user/336770/shaheen_darr.html.
Check back for my next intriguing poet, Janet Hunt. You won’t want to miss this talented lady either.
