Shaniya Davis, the 5 year old girl who was found dead in NC last week had relatives that are now speaking to the press. It has been reported that Shayina’s mother, Antoinette Davis, 25, is pregnant again. She is being kept separate from the rest of the prison population for that reason. She has a son, who is with child services since this incident occurred.
Antoinette Davis is accused of using her daughter, Shayina, for prostitution. “Warrants stated she provided her daughter with intent that the girl be held in sexual servitude.”
ABC 11 Eyewitness News interviewed family and friends of Shaniya Davis and her father. The grief stricken family said they had offered to care for Shayina before her father, Bradley Lockhart, placed her with her mother. Lockhart declined and was insistent on Shaniya being with her mother.
A friend of the family, Timothy Allen, spoke to reporters and said, “I believe he is 99 percent the reason this happened in the first place.” He went on to say, “He came to me and he was “like” I’m going to let Shaniya go stay with her mom, basically she needs to learn how to be a mom.”
Lockhart has a 17 year old daughter, Cheyenne Lockhart, who the Allen’s have taken care of in the past. “Timothy Allen and his wife, Myrna Allen, report that they took care of her after her father, Lockhart, kicked her out into the street.”
During a recent visit to their home, little Shaniya had scars on her arms and Myrna Allen asked her what had happened. She said the 5 year old said they were burns from cigarettes. Allen asked her where this happened and she told her that it was Mommies friend that did it.
Byron Coleman, Lockhart’s former father in law, also offered to look after the child instead of being placed in Davis’s home. Coleman said that they knew of the drug use and the people there he called, “drug people. He said Lockhart declined his offers also. “He put the child in that position,” Coleman said. “He knew the mother was doing drugs there. He knew that people she associated with was drug people.”
Bradley Lockhart was at a vigil for his daughter last night when he was asked about the accusations his family and friends had made, he replied that this was speculation and refused to comment about it.
Lockhart’s sister, Carey Lockhart-Davis said that If her brother wasn’t worried about the care Shaniya was with her mother, that she certainly was. She stated that she never got along with Antionette Davis because she did not like the way she neglected her children.
Lockhart’s sister went on to say, “I worried about her just as if she was mine,” She said that her brother did not spend much time with his children, “I understand he did love her, but he wasn’t always in her life,” she said. “She was raised by ex-girlfriends, another child’s mother in Florida; I mean other people raised her.”
Little Shaniya Davis’s body was found in a wooded rural area on an access road which was about a quarter of a mile away from Highway 87. The searchers found her partially buried near discarded deer carcasses in large trash bags. Searchers had looked in that area earlier in the search, but thought the area only contained the dead deer. After receiving the tip where to look for Shaniya’s body, they went back to that area. Officials would not say where they got the information that led them to the area where she was found.
So far only two people have been arrested in this case. Antionette Davis is being held on charges of human trafficking and filing a false report and Mario Andrette McNeill, who is charged with kidnapping Shayina Davis. He was the last one seen with the child alive when a surveillance camera taped him carrying the 5 year old into a hotel room after she was reported missing.
McNeill admitted to authorities that he took Shayina but is pleading not guilty, his lawyer reports. It was originally reported that he was Antionette Davis’s boyfriend, but that is unclear at this time. Later reports say that he is the boyfriend of Antionette’s sister, but this is still unconfirmed.
An Autopsy Is being done with hopes it may lead to how Shayina died and who killed her.
