Even when there are a million things to do, children still manage to be bored! Summer is the ultimate time for fun. They are out of school and shouldn’t have a care in the world, yet those little guys still come moping into the kitchen with a grumpy face saying, “I’m bored.” After chores are done and any other prior obligations are taken care of, there are lots of things that you can do with your children to keep them entertained!
Have Water Fun
If you have a pool, now is the perfect time to use it. A pool can provide hours of fun every day of the summer! Even a small, inexpensive wading pool will be exciting for the younger children. If you do not have a pool, you may be able to go to a community center that may have one, or even take a trip to a nearby lake or beach.
Sprinklers will also provide hours of entertainment for children. If you don’t have one and cannot afford to buy one, just turn on your regular garden hose and chase the kids around your yard with it! This will be great exercise for all of you, not to mention a lot of fun! Don’t forget to show your kids how at some angles they can see a rainbow from the water. If you do not have a hose, go to the dollar store and purchase water guns, water bombs, and water balloons! They are extremely cheap and will be lots of fun to play with.
Show your children how important reading is by taking weekly trips to the library. It may not sound very exciting, but you can make it exciting! Try starting a challenge for them to see how many books they can read over the summer. Set a reward for a certain number of books that they read. The library may also have some really fun summer activities planned for the little ones. Best of all, the library is free, so take advantage of it!
Plan a fun filled family vacation! It could be a trip to Disney World, a camping trip, or even just a day trip to a local place of interest. Vacations can be expensive so they may not always be an option for everyone. Try having a “mini-vacation” in your backyard or living room. Small children will be entertained to “camp” in the backyard for the weekend or to have a pajama party downstairs.
Invite lots of your children’s friends over for a fun summer party! You could provide crafts for them to make, let them have a movie marathon, or just let them run around and play! Let them go to their friends house for a little bit of alone time for you! You could even set up something with other parents in the neighborhood where you each take the kids one day a week and provide fun activities for them to do throughout the summer.
One of the best parts of summer is the yummy summer themed food and drink! Celebrate summer by baking with your children! Make delicious snacks like popsicles from frozen juice or you could even make fruit smoothies! Ask your children what type of snacks they would like to make and then help them make them! Let them create their own recipes and then let them actually make it. It will be fun to see what they can come up with.
The possibilities of a fun summer are endless! Sadly, summer is not endless, so make the most out of the summer and try to let your kids have as much fun as possible. They are only young for so long!
