The most peculiar, and surely one of the hottest, sexiest musical video team-ups of 2009 is now available for your viewing and listening pleasure on YouTube! The super sexy Beyonce and the bizarre Lady Gaga recently paired up to do a remix of Video Phone. This utterly unlikely paring of diva opposites Lady Gaga and Beyonce is the secret ingredient in Video Phone. Beyonce is tall and voluptuous. Lady Gaga is short and gaunt. Beyonce is dark and mysterious. Lady Gaga is pale and unabashed. But like the properly melded flavors of sweet and sour, this paring works. And works well.
Video Phone is another sizzling track off of Beyonce’s recently released album, I Am… Sasha Fierce. Other songs off this album have played out well in the music industry this year. Not that it’s any surprise as Beyonce is well on her way to being one of the most popular female singers ever. She has seven Grammy’s under her belt; in 2004, five of them were awarded to her in one night! One song on this album, Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It), has had more than 79 million views on YouTube, making it the 15th most watched video on YouTube. That’s a pretty big deal!
The Video Phone remix, featuring Lady Gaga, debuted November 19, 2009. The next day I looked it up on YouTube and, as I recall, it was already the most watched video of the day, well over 1 million views. Considering it had only been up for two days, with more than a million views already, this video was officially a hit! Besides seeing the seriously sexy Beyonce half dressed and whipping her hips around like a Kitchen Aid mixer, Lady Gaga was the one I was anxiously waiting to hear and see.
If you’ve ever wondered what Lady Gaga looks like without all the head and face costumes, watch the Video Phone music video! I had no idea what she looked like beyond her recent TV appearances with full-on elaborate costumes and heavy, colorful makeup. In fact, the last time I saw her on TV she had a red mesh material tied around her head covering her entire face. Even when she took it off so she could move her lips to thank everyone for her award, she was still masked with heavy stage makeup – including fake blood makeup dripping down her forehead onto her cheek and neck. Needless to say, her fresh, freaky styles and sexy goth girl shenanigans are burning up the news and gossip websites on a daily basis.
Just in case you haven’t been following her, Lady Gaga is rarely ever seen not wearing sunglasses, a mask, or a big hat covering her face. Oh, and the elaborate metal-studded leather S&M costumes she performs in keep her somewhat masked from her fans also. So when Lady Gaga appeared alongside Beyonce without head costumes and heavy makeup in Video Phone, I was pleasantly surprised, and shocked at the same time. It was like eating a sweet tart. A sour taste at first, and then quickly it turns pleasantly sweet. Well, Lady Gaga was looking pretty hot, yet at the same time, out of place to me somehow.
I have nothing against Lady Gaga. I listen to her music and I watch her strange yet entertaining performances when I hear about them. But, do you remember the sight game we all used to play in first grade; pick the thing in the photo that doesn’t belong? Well, in Video Phone, Lady Gaga dancing next to Beyonce looked like the thing that didn’t belong. Did Beyonce plan this all along? Did she get up one morning, call Jay-Z and say “Hey baby, I’m looking for a super diva like me, but who is physically and musically my exact opposite, so we can do a remix of Video Phone!” No matter whose idea this was, they were dead-on, as the music blogs and comment buzz on this sexy team-up is both positive and significant.
When I found out Video Phone was directed by Hype Williams, I was not surprised. His signature use of primary colors was present throughout Video Phone. You may also know his name from other cutting edge music videos he has directed for the likes of Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J and Jay-Z. One of my favorite Hype Williams music videos features singer Aaliyah. Hype Williams filmed Aaliyah’s final music video, “Rock the Boat,” which wrapped only a few hours before her tragic death in a plane crash in the Bahamas. Look it up on YouTube, it’s really beautiful.
Hype Williams wasn’t messing around when he made Video Phone. As always, he took our minds to a whole new level by dispensing mega loads of sexy skin, brilliant colors and special film effects for about four and a half minutes. In Video Phone, Hype gave the divas laser guns! Neither Beyonce nor Lady Gaga had any problems keeping the tall, half naked, muscled-up boys under control with their provocative, cherry red lips and suggestively contoured laser guns! The special effects were original, fun and a little on the cartoon super hero side. Hype Williams came out of a retirement of sorts to do the music video for the Video Phone remix. I for one am very glad he did.
The stylist for the Video Phone music video surely shopped at a high-end S&M porn clothing store. Either that or Lady Gaga opened up her closet for the video’s stylist. I should stop and give special Kudo’s to the stylists for keeping all the girls “bits and pieces” in place during their jumping, humping, bumping, grinding, swinging and dipping. Because you know Beyonce can bust a move. And did Lady Gaga keep up with her? Yes! I am pleased to report that Lady Gaga did keep up with Beyonce’s dance moves. Even Lady Gaga’s side sung lyrics flowed seamlessly with Beyonce’s rock strong anthem rhymes.
I was glad Beyonce did the Video Phone remix with Lady Gaga. If for no other reason than we all got to see what Lady Gaga really looks like! You can look for them together again when Beyonce sings on Lady Gaga’s new track Telephone, due to grace the eagerly awaiting ears of fans on November 24th, 2009.
If you find that you enjoy Beyonce duets, she performs some fantastic ones with Sean Paul, Luther Vandross, Justin Timberlake and the queen of sexy music videos: Shakira. Of course Beyonce and her main man of many years, Jay-Z, have recorded several popular duets together.
