Once upon a time, not so long ago the world of music consisted of Pop Icons. A cavalcade of artists who were colorful trend setters, larger than life, ruled the land. Slowly the cell phone, text messaging and virtual reality was evolving, just as rapidly, creativity was dissolving. It was inevitable that music would follow suit, as a product of unimaginative streaming familiar tunes. A product, they could churn out and force feed to a an emerging generation who were too busy to realize they were being brainwashed.
American Pie happened and oh boy did the music die.Of Course every once and while a new artist would break and it was a sign of hope, mostly glitter and flash but at least they could get me moving.
My little cousins would rag on me and tell me I was old, ( I am 28) and tell me, that is why I don’t get the music of today.
They have Taylor Swift Posters on their walls and insisted that I take a listen, I would change my mind.
They played me her song, Love Story and I yawned. So generic, I heard this type of vocal performance and same familiar melody so many times.
They said I needed to see the video to appreciate the tune. I watched the video and at first I thought I was watching Kirsten Dunst reprise her role as Claudia in An Interview with a Vampire with Le Stat as her costar.
Boring people. My little cousins and I argued into the morning and my hope for the next generation was definitely lost.
This past year I kept hearing the name Taylor Swift, I kept trying to connect, to see what apparently millions see.
I watched interviews, her live performances and more videos and only saw a lanky mediocre girl who felt to me like she was staring in her High School Talent Show.
So then that fateful night came upon us when Kanye West took to the stage at the MTV Awards while she was about to make her acceptance speech. Kanye you are so cool I mean you are so talented, talented at putting yourself on a pedestal and making excuses for why you don’t win awards.Maybe it is because you are nothing special?! Did that ever cross your swollen head?At that moment my disgust for Kanye made me an instant fan of Taylor’s.Which leads me to my point.
One month later at the CMA’s Taylor won several awards including Entertainer of the Year.
I found myself cheering and saying you hear that Kanye, take that Then I thought Entertainer of the Year? Really?
Maybe the Powers that be also had Kanye on the brain? In the meantime the musical gates of heaven had been opened and a savior to the world of melodic interludes and inspirational beats has been sent to enlighten mere mortals. Her name is Lady Gaga.
She is Judy Garland meets Marilyn Manson. Her voice spell binding her stage show, a theatrical horrific love story, a train wreck and a birth that keeps your eyes hostage. My hope has been renewed I am sure the children will follow this pied piper .Of Course I catch every performance and award show Gaga is part of.
Last night the American Music awards was on and my girl was up for Entertainer of he year.
Taylor Swift was in the same category.
Although my hatred for Kanye made me a Taylor advocate there was no way she could beat The Gaga!
No way could a cutesy, mousy girl next door walk away with top honors. As Ryan Seacrest spewed the name Taylor Swift I knew my conspiracy theory was right!! There is an unspoken truth, none will will admit, it is not politically correct; world hates Kanye for what he did to Taylor, therefore she will win every award known to man just to teach him a lesson.
