But just like carpet, hardwood floors can get stained. If you have a pet and have hardwood flooring, you know this can happen and also leave odors.
So what products are best to remove the odors and stains from your beautiful floor? There are several different things you can use, and some can be inexpensive as well.
If you have an oil stain, or grease stain on your hardwood floor. One of the best products you can use is lye soap, which can be picked up at any grocery store. Just simply get a towel wet, rub some lye soap on the towel and then gently rub the soap onto the stain.
If for some reason this does not work, you can also use hydrogen peroxide. This is something usually found in your medicine cabinet. Soak some cotton in the hydrogen peroxide then place on the stain. Then place a rag soaked in ammonia over the cotton and let sit for 30 minutes. Then rinse completely with warm water and then dry it off.
Maybe you have mold or mildew on your wood flooring. To get rid of it, dip a rag into chlorine bleach and rub the moldy spots. Rinse with water and dry thoroughly.
Sometimes boots and shoes can leave black scuff marks on your wood floors and they can be a pain to get out! To remove black marks apply hardwood floor wax to the area and scrub with a number 3 steel wool pad, and then buff with a clean dry rag.
If you have a puppy or dog that stays indoors and had an accident on your flooring, sometimes pet stains and the odors they cause can soak into the wood and linger. To get rid of these stains dip a number 1 steel wool pad into some mineral spirits and rub the area. You can also do the same thing for marks from markers or ink!
For sticky things such as gum, wax or crayon marks that just don’t want to come up off the wood flooring, there is an easy solutions. Simply hold an ice cube to the sticky spot and then scrape with a rubber spatula to get off as much as you can. If there is still a little left on the flooring after doing this, dip a number 3 wool pad into mineral spirits and rub on the area, wipe with water and then dry completely.
