With the holiday season fast approaching there are some items that you need to take care of early on. You can wait until December to buy Uncle John a new tie or get Susie that doll she wants. However, if you want a lasting gift you need to jump on the bandwagon and mark your calendars. You have probably had a family portrait done at some point in your life. Whether there is a 40 x 60 print hanging above the mantel or a wallet size was stuffed into every Christmas card you sent that year, the family portrait is something people enjoy receiving. The Traditional Holiday Family Portrait – Pets Included, will be a something a little different and unique.
Ok, so the family isn’t thrilled that they might have to put on a scratchy snowman sweater or have a huge red bow on their head, but everyone deals with it. Except for someone you may have never thought about – the family dog, cat or even the Cockatoo.
Since Abby’s first Christmas, when she was 11 months old, we took her to PetSmart to have her photo taken with Santa. The reason I am telling you about this now is because you never know when the pet shops will hold these photo sessions. They usually only hold them one weekend so if you miss it you have to wait another year.
Once we moved south I checked the PetSmart that was about an hour ride from us and the weekend they were holding the photo session was not good timing for us. I started calling around and I found out that our local Farmer’s Co-op was having a Christmas photo session. This was nothing like PetSmart’s sessions.
This was held at the co-op which was decorated with a beautiful tree and all the trimmings. The Santa was excellent and the photographer was a professional from town. Instead of getting a cute photo of Abby in a snowflake frame to hang on the tree, I got two 5 x 7 photos and a dozen wallet size. To this day everyone raves about the photo. I was glad I started ‘shopping around’ early to locate a place to have the photo taken.
If you do not have a PetSmart or other pet store in your area check your local phone book under photographers. Some will indicate whether they are ‘pet friendly’ or not. You may find either a photographer who will do a family portrait with the pet included or you may find a photographer who will do a pet, but separate from the family. Either way, it will make a unique Christmas memory for your family and whoever receives a copy.
You have time, you have the idea and soon you will have the gift – The Traditional Holiday Family Portrait – Pets Included.
