I am drawn to sewing projects with cute appliqués but unfortunately trying to tackle an appliqué has always scared me. I just don’t really know how to do it. Fortunately for me there are several talented women out there who have appliquéing down, and are more than willing to share their expertise with those of us who have no idea how to do it in the form of a tutorial. Here are three great tutorials that will help you overcome your fear of appliqués by showing you how it’s done.
Summer Sewing – Simple Machine Appliqué from Sew Mama Sew
If you like to sew than you will find the website Sew Mama Sew as a wealth of information, I could spend hours looking over their tutorials and they do not disappoint when it comes to their appliqué tutorial.
The tutorial, written by Elizabeth who is also the author of the blog Oh, Fransson, shows readers how to complete a very simple appliqué using their sewing machine. The tutorial is easy to understand and gives easy enough to follow instructions but is not as in depth as some of the other tutorials that can be found on the web.

Appliqué Tutorial from Secrets of Embroidery
The Appliqué Tutorial found at Secrets of Embroidery is a very simple alphabet appliqué, and the techniques learned in this tutorial can easily be transferred to other appliqué projects.
What I like the most about the appliqué tutorial from Secrets of Embroidery is the step-by-step pictures that show readers exactly what to do in each step. If you are like me and need a lot of hand holding when it comes to learning new techniques this is a must! The downside of the tutorial is that it shows how to do an appliqué using an embroidery hoop, which I personally don’t have, and embroidery hoops aren’t necessarily a must for appliqués.

Simple Machine Appliqué Tutorial from Little Birdie Secrets
Little Birdie Secrets is a blog that I follow regularly. It is full of all kinds of tips, tricks and ideas for crafters, which is right up my alley. As expected their Simple Machine Appliqué Tutorial is a definite winner. It is easy to follow, features step-by-step directions, and features pictures of the entire process, everything that I require in a tutorial.
