Tom Tom is now able to be controlled through your iPhone (3G/3GS), this means easy navigation with no extra unit to buy. Plenty of easy to use features makes this app a great addition to your phone. Currently, they are even creating a mount, specifically for the iPhone to give you the handsfree GPS effect, for those of us using it in our car.
There are many uses for the GPS and benefits for it being on your iPhone, rather than a separate unit. And since you can use this GPS system on your iPhone, you can even use this to navigate you while you are walking or riding a bike. Perhaps you are trying to find a specific address while you are in the shopping district. Or a certain marked trail while you are hiking (this map may have to be downloaded). Even while backpacking across the country, or in another country! Either way, having the GPS on your iPhone means it is not limited to just your car.
You always have your iPhone with you, now you’ll always have a GPS also. With this system, you can download any map that is available, not just the ones for your city, state or region. World maps are available, or even if you plan to go , there are maps for that too. Each one up-to-date, detailed, and easy to navigate.
A few of the many features (over 30) for this app include:
Tap and Go
An easy feature that lets you use the touch screen of the iPhone, making the TomTom GPS app a more desirable purchase. Just tap your way from A to B, which will allow you to choose your preferred route. You can pinch the screen to zoom in and out, and easily scroll through the menu more effectively.
TomTom IQ Routes
A smart, and very accurate feature, this will tell you the best route for you at certain times of the day, depending on traffic. This is calculated from millions of drivers and speed data. Which will allow you to have the smartest, most efficient route, and in turn will save you time, money, and gas.
Don’t miss your reservation because of traffic, use the restaurant feature to find you an alternative route. Either to miss traffic altogether, or just to find a quicker or less traveled way of getting there.
Route to Contact List
Pick any contact you have (that you have added their address to) and if it’s a readable address, the TomTom will get you there. Not everyone takes the time to type in addresses to their contacts, but this feature works so well, that taking the time is worth it. This will find anyone in your contact list with a detailed map of how to get there.
This allows you to choose your preferred path. From shortest or fastest. Avoid highways and limited speeds. Or just for walking or biking routes. It also lets you know of toll roads, ferry crossings, unpaved roads, and HOV lanes. Finding the best route for you, made easy.
This app can be purchased from iTunes, the U.S. and Canada version is $99.99. Any other version ranges from $79.99 to $139.99.

A “car kit” is coming soon. Price and availability not mentioned yet. It is said that the features of the car kit may include a better speaker and microphone. To boost the hands free feature. Also a better GPS signal and iPhone power cord. Making not only the app worth the purchase, but the car kit as well.
