A Christmas Story (1983)
This classic Christmas comedy is set in the 40’s. Ralphie is an all American boy who dreams of getting a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. He is afraid he will never get one because everyone tells him he will shoot his eye out. Ralphie’s wild imagination, family life and mishaps are guaranteed to make you laugh.
Fred Claus (2007)
Vince Vaughn stars as Fred Claus, older brother to Santa, played by Paul Giamatti. Fred isn’t as clean cut as his brother and he travels to the North Pole to try to get him to fund his latest scheme. Vince Vaughn always makes me laugh and this Christmas comedy is no different.
Buddy, portrayed by Will Ferrell, was an orphan who was raised by Santa’s elves. He has always felt out of place and longed to find his real dad. He sets off for New York on his quest to bond with his dad and bring back New Yorkers Christmas spirit. Buddy experiences many hilarious situations in his new surroundings.
Jingle All the Way (1996)
This is a really funny Christmas comedy. Arnold Schwarzenegger is Howard, a dad who wants to win his son’s love by giving him the gift he really wants. Problem is, it is the day before Christmas and Howard isn’t the only parent looking for Turbo Man. There are some good laughs watching the scheming and scuffles that Howard gets into with his top competition, played by Sinbad.
Christmas with the Kranks (2004)
This Christmas comedy is based on a novel by John Grisham. Tim Allen and Jaime Lee Curtis are parents of a college age daughter who informs them she is not coming home for Christmas. Instead of going all out for the holidays like they usually do, they decide to go on a cruise. This decision dismays their neighbors. That along with the scrambling around they must do when their daughter decides to come home after all, is truly funny.
Home Alone (1990)
Macaulay Culkin stars as Kevin who is supposed to spend Christmas in Paris with his family. He accidentally gets left at home and has to fend for himself. This movie provides a lot of great laughs when Kevin encounters two inept burglars played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern.
Bad Santa (2003)
This dark humor Christmas comedy stars Billy Bob Thorton as a rotten to the core department store Santa. This Santa and his elf are con men who plan on cracking the safe. Full of adult situations and foul language this movie is far from your traditional Christmas movie.
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)
Chevy Chase reprises his role as bumbling dad Clark Griswold. He wants to give his family the best Christmas they have ever had, even if he doesn’t have the means or skills to do it. This Christmas comedy stays true to the other vacation movies and scores lot’s of laughs.
Deck the Hall’s (2006)
Two neighbors, Matthew Broderick and Danny Devito get into a heated competition over who has the better Christmas decorations. They will stop at nothing to top one another and end up annoying their families in the process. This movie is a funny Christmas comedy that shows how the true spirit of the holidays can be lost and hopefully found again.
The Santa Clause 2 (2002)
This Christmas comedy is a great sequel to The Santa Clause, a movie included in my article Top 10 Christmas Movies to Watch. The movie takes place 8 years later and Tim Allen is doing well as Santa. That is until he finds out his son is on the naughty list and that he must find a Mrs. Clause by Christmas Eve or Christmas ends. There are many funny scenes as Santa attempts to date and repair his relationship with his son.
