Eva Avila. She was the Canadian Idol winner in 2006 at only 19 years old. Now 22 years old, the Ontario French Canadian singer is already well known in Canada having a hit single “Mean to Fly” which debuted at #6 on the Canadian Album Charts (Off of her debut album “Somewhere else”. She began her entry into the American landscape with her Maybelline NY modeling contract, which makes her the first Canadians to ever sign for the Maybelline campaign. More recently, she was the opening act for Beyonce’s I am… tour on the Canadian leg of her tour.
RichGirl. Producer Rich Harrison, the man behind Destiny’s child and producer of at least one of Beyonce’s hit singles, compiled this group of four girls to create an act bearing his name. RichGirl consists of Audra, Brave, Lyndriette, and Seven, four mostly black young women originating from all over the continental U.S. During Beyonce’s American leg of her North American act they opened for her in cities such as NYC and Philadelphia gaining a great amount of exposure. Their yet to be named debut album is only set to release in early 2010, but their single “He ain’t wit me now (tho)” is currently available on iTunes.
Jason Derulo. The Florida native already has a hit single with “Watchu say” that has reached number one on the Billboard charts in America and New Zealand. The heavily produced pop/r&b single landed him a spot opening for the uber successful Lady Gaga tour “The Monster Ball Tour”. The 20 year old cites Michael Jackson as his inspiration for pursuing music and performing arts and his debut album, produced by Britney Spears ex and producer, J.R. Rotem, is on Warner Brother records.
Ke$ha. Much like Derulo, 22 year old Ke$ha already had a hit single, “Tik Tok” that has reached number one in Canada, New Zealand, and Australia as well as #3 on the U.S. charts. You may recognize her vocals from her collaboration with Florida on “Right Round” which was featured in the film The Hangover. She also had a duet with 3OH!3 on the song “My First Kiss”. The L.A. native, signed with RCA records, is releasing her debut album on January 5, 2010.
Justin Bieber. I haven’t heard one song this 15 year old native Canadian sings, but when I recently heard that the Roosevelt Field Mall in Long Island, NY had to call the police due to a CD signing appearance he had scheduled, I knew he had to be big. His two hit songs are entitled “One Time” and “One Less Lonely Girl” and his debut album was only released in November of 2009, but after 3,000 teenage girls and their mothers came to meet him at the mall, the appearance had to be cancelled for the safety of everyone involved. The teen sensation not only sings but he also plays the piano and the guitar, and was discovered after gaining attention for videos he posted of himself performing on YouTube.
