2010 is the first year for the Volvo XC60, and the reviews are pretty high. It’s convenient, stylish, safe like all Volvos and gets high marks for performance. Its focus, in fact, is both high-end interior and exterior styling as well as a number of standard safety features, including rollover-sensing stability control, antilock brakes with brake assist, front-seat side and side curtain airbags and whiplash-reducing front seats. It gets about 18 miles per gallon.

Top SUV for 2010 #3: 2010 Nissan Armada
This year, the 2010 Nissan Armada gets new seat-mounted side airbags standard in every vehicle and new trim options as well. It’s still a full-size SUV with solid V8 performance, three rows of seating, high quality interior. What it lacks in fuel efficiency-it gets about 14 miles to the gallon-it gains in safety with a 5-star driver protection and 4-star passenger protection rating in crash tests.

The 2010 Lincoln MKX is a luxury crossover SUV with tons of standard features, lots of passenger room, and a quiet ride. This year, it has updated options packages, and as usual, the standard safety features are excellent: antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front side airbags and side curtain airbags. It gets about 18 or 19 miles to the gallon.

Top SUV for 2010 #5: 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK-350
The 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK-350 is a luxury SUV with a standard 3.5-liter V6 engine; it gets 16 to 22 miles to the gallon. This is the first year for this model, but the initial reviews are good: it gets 4-star and 5-star ratings on safety, customer satisfaction and performance.
