Imagine a toy for infants that sends 400,000 babies to the doctor every year, 200,000 to the ER, 50,000 to the hospital, and 50 to the morgue. Imagine a toy that puts 1 of every 5 children that play with it in the hospital, leaves some of these children brain damaged, deaf or blind, and kills 1 child of every thousand. Imagine a toy that gives liver cancer to some of the children that play with it, shortening their lives by 30 years or more.
Now imagine a group of people dedicated to making sure those toys will be available to your children and grandchildren. Imagine celebrities and doctors speaking in favor of keeping those toys on the market. Imagine people dedicated to making sure those toys might be available in any shop, movie theater, nursery school, summer camp, grade school, high school, and college that your children visit.
Imagine those people distributing the lethal toys among the families in their group, knowing full well that the toys will be shared with children not in their group, as toys so often are. Imagine them insisting that their children have a right to bring those deadly toys to school or the movies and share them, regardless of what it might do to your children.
Are those people being paid handsomely by the toy manufacturers to spread the toys? No, the toy manufacturers don’t pay anyone.
Are those people insane? No, some of them sincerely believe that children need to play with these toys because it helps their physical or spiritual development, if they survive the experience. Some of them are doing it because they believe playing with the toys is less harmful than making their children safe from the toys. Some of them do it because they don’t trust the people who are telling tell them the toys are dangerous.
If you change “toys” to “vaccine preventable diseases” you may understand why pediatricians and other health professionals are aghast at the pro-disease, anti-vaccine movement. If any manufactured product sent children to the hospital in the numbers that so-called “ordinary childhood diseases” do, parents would be screaming for the government to ban the toys, jail the manufacturers, and protect the children.
Those deadly toys in the first paragraph are, respectively, rotavirus, measles, and hepatitis B. They are all preventable by vaccination.
