Today there are people in our society that are considered heros. They have attained hero status by being movie stars, sports stars, famous singers, or being extremely rich or good-looking, according to the world’s standards. These heros are looked up to by many people, but do they truly live by the moral standards people should live by? There are very few men and women today who have attained hero status that exemplify the Godly values throughout their everyday lives that everybody should portray.
Many of the men and women who are considered heros in our world today do not act the same way away from the spot light as they do in it. Many movie stars and singers seem to put on this face for the camera that they are happy and living a great life, when they are really struggling inside. That is what Owen Wilson did and nobody ever thought a fun, comical guy like him would attempt suicide. Hiding ones true feelings can make one appear happy when there is really an ongoing battle inside of them that riches and fame cannot cure. Another way our worldly heros are two face is that many of them are hypocrites. Matthew 6:4-6 says, “…so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Many heros in our world today only do good thing when other people are watching, but
by themselves and with friends they act just like everybody else. need to express their feelings and be themselves without trying to be something they are not.
God in our world today is rejected and his moral standards are thrown away. His are the standards everybody should live by. People are born with a sinful nature and many heros of today have let that sinful nature overtake them. Romans 8:5 say, “Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires” (Bible). Many men and women who are called heros live according to their sinful nature which desires to sin against God, but the true heros live according to the Holy Spirit which desires to do the will of God. God in our day-in-age is not the “cool thing” to believe in. He used to be held to a much higher esteem, but the world has strayed away from God and into a life of sin. Now living in sin is the “cool thing” to do while the real heros who are living by God’s standards are looked down upon.
The world has drifted from a great God fearing nation to a sinful place where partying and having premarital sex is the normal everyday lifestyle. Too many of our men and women who have attained hero status have fallen into this life style. The temptations of the world have infected their lives, but the world looks past that and exemplifies them with the status of a hero. Romans 12:13-14 says, “The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.” God wants His people to keep their eyes on Him and live according to His word. The men and women of today who live according to Jesus Christ and put aside the sinful temptations of the world are the true heroes everyone should look up to.
Many of the worldly heros of today do not display the moral standards throughout their lives that God wants everybody to live by. Most of these heros fall into the ways of the world and do not deserve to be looked up to as a hero. Today’s heros act in a famous movie, sing a hit song, or dominate the sport they play in and they are suddenly heros. Yes, they acted great in a movie, but how do they act off set and what moral values do they have for the lives they live. The true heros in our world today are the pastors, preachers, Christians, and those not afraid to go against the tempatations of the world and stand up for what they believe in.
