Throwing a party on a theme related to your tween’s favorite movies, television shows, books, or other activities is a fun way to celebrate any occasion. Here are some great ideas for party themes for tweens!
Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight books and movies are incredibly popular. A vampire-themed party is a fun and different idea! For party favors, pass out fake vampire teeth. These are readily available at Halloween, but can be found online or at party supply stores year-round. Serve vampire blood punch as a special treat for your guests. Decorate your house in spooky style with fake cobwebs and headstones. Keep the lights low and use flameless candles for mood lighting. (Real candles would work too, but the flame-free variety are a safer option for a party involving kids!)
Harry Potter is another very popular character with tweens. A wizardly celebration is a great idea if your child dreams of attending Hogwart’s! Magic wands make great party favors for a Harry Potter themed party. For a wizard’s potion punch, make a bowl of your favorite punch at room-temperature. Serve it poured over dry ice. The dry ice will cool the punch down and will give off a “smoking” effect. (Don’t worry, the smoke won’t hurt you!) Decorate with dragons and other magical, mythical creatures. You can even play your own version of Quidditch with an on-the-ground adaptation. (Here are the rules!)
If you have a tween girl, treat she and her friends to a spa-themed party! Pass out inexpensive manicure or pedicure sets or small bottles of lotions and soaps as party favors. Your tween and her friends will enjoy a grownup-style pampering. Soak, exfoliate, and moisturize your feet; paint your faces with clay masks; you can even take this opportunity to talk about the importance of proper skin care!
Tween boys will love a sports themed party. Decorate with sports balls and crepe paper in the colors of your son’s favorite team. Miniature sports balls make perfect party favors. A basketball, baseball, or soccer ball cake is easy to make using a pair of round cake pans; simply make a round layer cake and decorate it to resemble the sports ball of your choice! Sports themed party games are simple to set up. Use a practice putting green for a golf contest, or try throwing a football through a tire swing or other opening. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination. You may even want to consider getting small, inexpensive trophies or ribbons to give out as prizes for the games.
When planning a themed party for your tween, remember to keep in mind their current interests. Ask them for theme ideas. They will likely also have some great ideas for games, party favors, decorations, and more. Letting your tween assist in the party planning will make them feel grown up and will make the event even more special!
