In this guide, I will explain what the text overlay option in Zoner Photo Studio is and I will explain how to use it. There is also and Image Overlay and we will cover that later on, but don’t confuse the two. So, let’s get started with this Text Overlay guide.
What is a Text Overlay?
Let’s begin with what is a text overlay. A text overlay is basically text placed on a photo. You can get the same effect by typing text on your photo using the text tool. The difference with the text overlay is editing is a lot easier. It is sometimes a bit difficult to edit the text you have placed on a photo when you use the text tool. If you use the text overlay option, everything can be edited in the box that opens and the editing can be seen as soon as you make changes.
How Do I Use the Text Overlay Option in Zoner Photo Studio?
Next, I will show you how to use the Text Overlay option in Zoner Photo Studio. You will first need to open the photo that you want to apply the text overlay too. You can use any photo for this guide. No changes will be saved until you actually save it. So, you can cancel it out when you are finished with this guide and then go back and create the text overlay on the photo you want.
To open the text overlay, select a photo and go to the top of your program and click Edit > Text Overlay. You can also press CTRL T after selecting your photo to open the text overlay option. The text overlay box will open and in this box is where you will create your text, edit it, and apply it.
In the top part of the box, you will see the original photo and a preview of the new photo. In the bottom part of the box are all of your options for creating the text overlay. Let’s take a look at some of the options.
Text Box – In the text box, you will need to delete the text and type what you want in the box. This is the text that will appear on your photo.
Font / Size / Color – These three fields control the look of you text. Click the boxes and choose the option of your choice.
Background Color – If you want to apply a background color of the text, click the Background Color box and select the color of your choice.
The other options can pretty much be left as is. Once you are ready to apply the text overlay, click the OK button. If you are just using this photo as an example with this guide, you can click the Cancel button to cancel out of this text overlay. Then you can go back and select the photo you really want to use and apply the text overlay.
