Alabama football has had some rough times since the late 1990s. They had a hot potato shuffle with coaches and got hit with some rules violations by the NCAA. Now I always found it funny that the NCAA always seems to find anything Alabama does wrong but not all the others teams. There is a t-shirt out that says NCAA means National Coalition Against Alabama. I actually could see this being factual. This just might be our year for Crimson Tide Fans.
During week eight the second ranked University of Alabama defeated the twenty second ranked University of South Carolina 20-6. Steve Spurrier is complaining that Alabama kicker Leigh Tiffin used tape in order to mark the spot for the field goal in violation of rules. Alabama coach Nick Saban pointed out that film shows many kickers do that including the kicker for the University of South Carolina last season. Spurrier was probably ticked off that his team got spanked in a major way. The number one team in the nation, The University of Florida, just barely defeated the unranked Arkansas Razorbacks 23-20.
This week the University of Alabama plays a rivalry game against the University of Tennessee in Tuscaloosa Alabama. Depending on the ranking you use Alabama is ranked number one or two while Tennessee is unranked. Alabama is ranked higher than Tennessee in every offensive and defensive category except that of loudmouth coach. Nick Saban of the Crimson Tide tends to let his team and results to the talking while Lane Kiffin tends to let his mouth overload his rear. That also happened with former coach Phil Fulmer. He was so afraid Alabama could beat them that he turned out to be a source of a recruiting scandal that put Alabama on probation. Could be Tennessee is jealous because of their lack of championships compared to Alabama. They did have that one six they lay claim to but most of them are ancient history except the one in 1998. I think Alabama will this game 20-10 if Alabama’s quarterback McElroy has a bad day. If he does they will probably go more and more to the bread and butter running game. The one problem that Alabama has had was allowing scores on kickoff and put returns. They appear to have gotten out of that habit though.
Alabama or the University of Florida will most likely be national champions this year. Florida looks much better on paper than Alabama. As a Crimson Tide fan I hate to admit that. The intangible is that I think that Alabama wants it much more. As long as it has been since they had a shot at a national title combined with the fact that they lost in the sec championship last year, I think they will be up for their game. Also with Tim Tebow will face the best defense of the year against Alabama. He proved how beatable they are last week against Arkansas.
Roll Tide! See you in January.
