Like it or not, Halloween is a fact of life. It is the most celebrated and popular holiday next to Christmas. If you find yourself having to entertain a group of little Halloween ghosts, goblins and super heroes, here are a few games kids like. These games never go out of style. They are based on the old favorite relay games that we used to play. These games are fine for scout meetings, classroom parties and family gatherings. They can be played inside or out doors.
“Ghost, Ghost, Witch”……….You will remember this game. It is played just like “Duck, Duck Goose.”
How to Play:
*Have kids sit on the floor in a circle.
*Choose one child to walk around the outside of the circle while chanting “ghost, ghost, ghost.” When the child taps another child and says “witch” instead of ghost, the tapped child must get up, chase and tag the “ghost child” before he can sit down in the empty spot. The game continues.
How to Play:
You will need a witch hat for this Halloween game. You can buy one or have the children make one from black poster board. Cut and fold the poster board into a witch hat-cone shape. Trim and decorate the hat with Halloween stickers and glitter if you wish.
*All the children sit on the floor in a circle. One player sits in the center of the circle, wearing the witch hat. She sings out, “I’m a little witch, looking for a seat.. If I call your names, get up upon your feet.” The witch then calls out two of the children’s names. Those children must exchange their seats in the circle. If the witch gets to a seat first, the person left out becomes the witch and puts on the black hat, sits in the center of the circle, sings the song and the game continues.
Witch and Broom Relay Race.
You will need 2 witch’s hats and two small brooms.
How to play:
*Divide the children into two teams.
*Have them stand in lines next to each other.
*Place the two witch hats at the opposite end of the room, one for each team. Leave enough space for a child to run around it.
*Give each of the line leaders a broom.
*At the command “Witches Fly” The first child in each line, climbs on her broom, runs to the hat, runs around the hat, and then runs back to her line.
*The first child says “Witches Fly” and hands the broom to the next child in line, who runs upto and around the witch hat with her broom and then back to the next child in her line. The relay is repeated. Remember to say “Witches Fly” before running off with the broom, or that child has to go back and start again.
*The first group of “witches” to finish the race wins.
Prizes can be simple favors from the dollar or party store. Stickers, Magic Markers, Halloween jewelry and make-up are fun. With little money spent and some organization, these Halloween party games can be enjoyed by all. .
