What I Learned During the AC-Twitter Challenge

by sawpan

Since 2006 when Twitter was founded by Jack Dorsey, it has acquired a huge following. Although, I must confess that I didn’t set up my Twitter Account until after I started writing for AC on May 31, 2009. After that time I set up a Twitter account and started a blog. Working fulltime and finding the time to Tweet and post to my blog on a regular basis has been a difficult challenge for me.

I admit I haven’t done very well at keeping my Twitter account up. I really don’t have anyone to Tweet on a regular basis, and I find a hard time trying to find something to Tweet about. Prior to taking the AC-Twitter challenge, I had already linked my AC content to feed to my Twitter account and my blog. At that time I had fewer than 10 followers in Twitter. I didn’t and still don’t understand how to get people to find and follow me. Since the Twitter challenge started, I’ve increased up to 46 followers. Since I don’t visit Twitter and tweet everyday, I guess that’s pretty good. It’s an increase of 22%. I’ve seen a slight increase in page views. I had hoped for better results, but I realize that I haven’t grasped how it all works.

I don’t doubt however, that Twitter is a great tool to promote my AC content and get more page views; I just have to make a little more effort at figuring how what I need to do to gain more followers. I’m assuming I have to follow more in order to get more followers. Is this right?

I’ve chosen over 100 to follow, such as my favorite local TV station, some radio talk show hosts like Dave Ramsey. I also follow Andy Andrews who is a comedian and author. Some others I follow are Ryan Seacrest, Paula Abdul and most recently signed on to follow Harry Potter writer J.K. Rawlings. Needless to say none of these celebs are following me in return. Maybe one day they will.

The other thing I’ve notice is that a lot of my followers are only tweeting advertisements. I suppose that’s what I’m doing since I’m mainly feeding my AC content to my account and not tweeting personal or other messages. Some of my Twitter followers are business owners and some are AC contributors. Thank to all who are following me, I appreciate it!

I’m inspired now to unlock the secret to gaining more Tweets, increasing my page views, and trying to Tweet more, and not just my AC articles. Is there anyone out there who could give me some tips on using my Twitter account to its fullest potential? Any and all comments are welcome. I’m desperately seeking wisdom on this subject, so if you have any please share! Thanks.
