Ebay is basically a huge online flea market. The only problem is that it is not a traditional flea market. You can not look at the item, see if it is broken, hold it in your hands or make sure it works. You have to pay for shipping and if something is broken, you have to ship it back. There are things that you can buy on eBay, such as things that you can not find anywhere else like a rare baseball card or book. You should not buy things that may break easily in shipping or are easily faked.
RARE COLLECTIBLES – You may want to purchase rare collectibles on eBay if you absolutely cannot find them anywhere else. Things such as baseball cards, rare books and photos . You will have to pay for shipping and if something is wrong with it, you will have to ship it back.
AUTOMOBILE PARTS – Automobile parts are usually a safe bet on eBay. They are not easily damaged in shipping and they are difficult to counterfeit.
ELECTRONICS – It is not a good idea to buy electronics on eBay. They are very sensitive devices and can be damaged in shipping if they ever worked in the first place. It is better to go to your local electronics store where you can receive good customer service, returns and repairs easily.
JEWELRY – Jewelry is something that can easily be counterfeited. It is very risky buying jewelry on eBay.
VIDEOS, CDS AND DVDS – Videos, cds and dvds can easily be pirated. Be very careful if you decide to purchase them on eBay.
PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS – Many personal care products are not allowed on eBay, but sold their anyway. Personal care products can be contaminated and you will not know if they have been used prior or not.
FEEDBACK – Do not assume that the seller is reputable just because they have great feedback. Other eBayers may not have been able to leave negative feedback because they already left positive feedback or they are worried about receiving retaliatory negative feedback. There is a bookseller on ebay that gives negative feedback to 90% of his customers. He waits until they have left him positive feedback and then he leaves negative. The seller should give you positive feedback after you have paid and received the item. The buyer should give positive feedback after they have received the item.
LISTING – Read the listing thoroughly and ask the seller any questions that you may have. Never make any assumptions. If the listing states something that you just cannot believe, it probably is not true. Ask the seller and they may tell you it was a mistake.
SHIPPING – Never assume that you will receive a discount on shipping because you purchased multiple items. Always make sure you understand the shipping and return policy. If the item is broken, will the seller pay to have it shipped back?
