Are you visiting Torrington, Connecticut soon? Wether it’s because of a family gathering or if you just happen to go through the city in Northwest Connecticut, you’ll truly enjoy yourself. Torrington has a population of over 40,000 people, so there has been a major spike in retail boom and entertainment.
Upon entering the city via Route 8, you’ll probably see an empty parking lot, but in a little over a year, this parking lot will be filled with cars and a 1930’s old Diner, which was left abandoned for about 10 years. This Diner will be completely restored and will serve as a Tourist Information Center.
When you go through downtown, you’ll see a giant, lighted sign reading “Warner Theatre.” What you are seeing here is a historic theater that opened in the 1930s as a movie theater. So, when you feel like checking out a awesome play, make sure to check the Warner!
Also in the city is a museum, broken into two buildings, called the Torrington Historical Society. This museum features the best history and architecture in Torrington. There’s also a very low admission fee, and you’ll learn a lot!
If you’ve got money to spend, Torrington has plenty of stores to offer, everything from big box stores to small, local stores. If you are a brand shopper, you might want to check out one of several shopping plazas in the city. These plazas are home to stores like Target, Walmart, Staples, T-J Maxx, Bed Bath & Beyond, and much more!
In addition to these chain stores, there’s also small stores in the heart of downtown, like the Yankee Peddler Gift Shop, Nirvana Smoothie Shop, and many more!
And, there’s plenty of room for your fun side too, like D.N.A. Arcade and the Torrington Carnival. At D.N.A., also called Digital Network Arena, there’s machine games that you can enjoy, and you can even buy some computer time on one of their high-performance, and very cool computers! If you’re not the typical computer guy, you can also choose and play one of hundreds of games on the Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3, which are played on one of five 52″ TVs! And when you’re there, don’t forget to play some pool with your buddies!
The Torrington Carnival premiered in Torrington in September 2008, and offered some great rides, food and attractions. You can spend hours there!
Also in Torrington during May is the huge, 1 hour Memorial Day Parade, which features some local bands and people who honor vets who served in the wars.
If you get hungry in Torrington, there’s plenty of places to fill up. There’s an Applebee’s, Pizza Hut, 99 Restaurant, and coming soon, an Olive Garden! There’s also two McDonald’s and one Burger King. In addition, there’s some local food in Torrington, too. Award-winning Roma Pizzeria has been serving incredible pizzas for years! Tequila’s Mexican Restaurant also has awesome french fries and Mexican Food. And, don’t forget the four Chinese Buffets in Torrington! There are also several deli and marketplaces in Torrington, including Stop ‘N’ Shop, and Big Y.
