The kids are back to school. Mom has a little bit of time on her hands. What’s a Mom to do? All the people you cater to are in school or at work. Well, there’s someone who is being neglected. That someone is you. I suggest an hour or two each day of complete and utter selfishness for Mom. Remain interesting to your husband and kids by getting a life of your own.
Have lunch or a cup of coffee with other stay at home Moms in the neighborhood. Explore a museum together or just vent about Mom stuff. Get to know your neighbors on a personal level. You may form a life long friendship or just find someone to chat with. Either way, you’ll broaden horizons through socialization while the kids are in school.
See a Silent Movie
When was the last time you actually enjoyed a movie? Mom duty never goes away, even in the movie theater. Wouldn’t it be nice to watch a film you like while the kids are in school? No bathroom breaks, no temper tantrums, no popcorn runs. Just you, your snacks and the “Silver Screen”. Feel free to bring one of those new friends. Their kids are in school too.
Read a Good Book
Speaking of silence, how hard is it to concentrate on a book with kids running around the house? Kick off your shoes. Put your feet up. Enjoy some pure fiction for an hour or two. It’s OK, you’ll have plenty of time for housework while the kids are in school. You can cook and clean later. Right now it’s Mommy me time.
Take a Long Soak
Sink into those bubbles. Don’t forget the bath pillow. Buy pretty scented items for the bath or just bubble your troubles away. Take the time to pamper and groom yourself like you did in the BK (before kids) era. Fall asleep in there if you like. The kids are in school. Naps are good for you. Slather on luxurious oils and lotions after the bath.
Shop for Yourself
Treat yourself to a little back to school Mom shopping spree. Many Moms are guilty of putting their kids and spouse ahead of themselves when it comes to new clothes. Don’t be afraid to replace those talking tennis shoes. Buy something sexy to tease hubby with too. Make him remember why he married you in the first place.
Get a Makeover
Why stop at clothes? Make a visit to the beauty salon while the kids are in school. A new haircut will have you looking and feeling like a goddess. Don’t forget to do your nails and get a facial too. You must get a pedicure at least once in your life. How about some permanent hair removal? A busy Mom just doesn’t have time for all that shaving!
Take a Class
Don’t leave out the brain work Mom. While your kids are in school, you can get an education. Learn about interesting things to increase your topics of conversation. Kids will be bragging about how smart their Mom is. Hubby will see you as a woman of mystery again. Nobody likes to hear about the same thing over and over.
Just Lay Around (Yes, really, it’s OK!)
Sometimes it’s nice to just lay in the grass, stare at the clouds and dream. Kids do it all the time. Look how happy they are. I’m past the kids in school era, but one of my favorite things to do, now that they are grown and gone is grab a towel and head for the beach. Lay in the sand on a blanket and take the occasional dip. The kids will wonder how you got so tan while they were in school. Don’t tell them. It’ll be our little secret.
