NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said on more than one occasion the last few months that England will have a professional NFL team soon. The NFL already goes over to London for one regular season game a year. What about Los Angeles who hasn’t had an NFL team in twenty years? The County of Los Angeles maybe more precise. The City of Industry is in Los Angeles county and has approved construction of a new state of the art stadium to house a new football team or an existing one. Let the games begin.
Los Angeles will begin wooing potential teams soon
The LA market better start looking for a team soon. Most teams are negotiating leases and want to use the LA market as leverage, not really wanting to come to Los Angeles, just to get trying to get themselves a sweeter deal at home. Moving an NFL franchise is never easy.
In fact Los Angeles has gone through a team leaving them twice: Los Angeles Rams to Anaheim, then St Louis and the Oakland Raiders moving back to Oakland after Al Davis didn’t get his new stadium. The goal for Los Angeles County is simple. Build a state of the art stadium and get an unhappy team with a bit of history. What about the Minnesota Vikings?
The Vikings aren’t happy with the pathetic Metrodome (remember when it was state of the art) and Ziggy Wolfe has expressed interest in Los Angeles. Hmmmmm. Los Angeles in December or Minneapolis……. Sorry Viking fans but if you want to keep your team, tell your city council to get cracking on a new stadium. Oh yes and start kissing Ziggy Wolfe’s butt.
Who is the best candidate for London?
We haven’t heard any name but the Jacksonville Jaguars. Makes sense. They have no fan support, they are in a bad market and in two years London is hosting the Olympics. The NFL is calculating, they will make their announcement when all eyes are on London for the 2012 Olympics. You can bet on it.
The Jags will play in Wembley Stadium, which will undergo a massive improvement for the Olympics. So remember when your watching the opening ceremonies in London, Don’t be surprised when they are commenting about the Jaguars coming to London and the NFL going international. The Jaguars will surely undergo a name change and be playing in London by the year 2014 or 2015.
So now the question is when will Los Angeles get their team? How long will it take to build the stadium? With the fickle fans in LA, the stadium better outshine Jerry Jones monstrosity in Dallas or the shine will be off the new car pretty quick. Look for Los Angeles to get their team in the year 2012. Maybe sooner. So the answer is Los Angeles by a nose. In three years we can check back and see if I’m right .
