Zombieland Movie To Be Released Friday, Oct. 2
Director Ruben Fleischer’s new “Zombieland” movie, which is to be released this Friday (10/2), a mix of comedy, gore and action blend together to form a worthy addition to the black-humor zombie movies of late.
When the Columbia Pictures “Zombieland” movie began to show trailers, zombie movie fans around the world likely thought of the 2004 movie, “Shaun Of The Dead”. In fact, “Shaun”, which successfully combined zombies, guns and gore with an off-the-cuff, tongue-in-cheek comedic spin that made it accessible to horror and comedy genre fans alike, may just be the British forefather to Fleischer’s “Zombieland”.
The “Zombieland” movie looks to be the next big thing for cross-over horror-comedy movies, but the numbers from the “Zombieland” opening weekend (Oct 2-4, 2009) will indicate just how popular this type of movie is among current audiences.
According to the Columbia Pictures “Zombieland” movie plot summary, published on IMDB, “Zombieland” centers around two bumbling friends who have managed to navigate a new world overrun by zombies without getting eaten. The friends, Tallahassee and Columbus, eventually meet up with two quirky zombie-slayeing sisters, and the quartet has to decide whether or not to go it together, or separately. Each pair have their own unique ways of killing and evading the zombies, and together, they can now compare zombie survival notes and come up with a plan.
In the “Zombieland” movie plot summary, Tallahasse is described as a gun-slingin’, zombie-killing “bad ass whose determination is to get the last Twinkie on Earth”, while his buddy, Columbus, is a meek, mild-mannered college student. This mix should offer significant comedic contrast for “Zombieland”, especially with Woody Harrelson playing the role of Tallahasse. Harrelson is known for his ability to bring forth a dark, almost evil screen presence, mixing frightening intensity with a dialog delivery that is often wickedly funny.
“Zombieland” charachter Columbus is played by actor Jesse Eisenberg, who has had small television and movie parts over the last decade, including a role in 2004’s M. Night Shyamalan thriller, “The Village”. Eisenberg’s Columbus embodies a nerdy, nervous-nelly persona which plays off Woody Harrelson well, with his laid-back, yet in-your-face comedic stylings of Tallahasse.
Emma Stone, who played Jules in the 2007 movie “Superbad” and the role of Allison Vandermeersh in 2009’s “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past”, plays Wichita, who is the sister of “Little Rock”, played by Abigail Breslin of early 2009 “My Sister’s Keeper” fame.
“Zombieland” is rated ‘R’ by the MPAA, and has an estimated run time of 82 minutes. “Zombieland” opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, October 2, 2009.
